ASWF Project & Community Survey

Emily Olin

ASWF Community:

Calling all users of OpenEXR, OpenVDB, OpenCue, OpenColorIO, Open Shading Language, and OpenTimelineIO! Our ASWF projects would like your feedback as they build out technical roadmaps and prioritize efforts.

Please consider taking this survey before Feb. 1https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ASWF.

We've designed the survey so that respondents don't have to answer all the questions, but only those that pertain to projects they use on a regular basis.

We'd appreciate if you could also help us by sharing the survey with other community and industry members.

Thanks!

Addressing Diversity & Inclusion across Open Source Communities for VFX

Emily Olin

ASWF community:

Today, we posted a statement in support of the Black community and our commitment to driving diversity and inclusion within our own community and across the open source ecosystem for VFX and animation.

We are also happy to share that we have established a Diversity & Inclusion Working Group. We encourage you all to get involved and join the diversity@... mailing list. You can read our statement here.

Also, going forward, notices of ASWF news and blog posts will be posted in a new announcements@... group instead of the main group.

Thanks!

ASWF themed Zoom backgrounds for community use

John Mertic

ASWF Community,

As we've all shifted to using virtual conferencing tools for our day-to-day interactions, and with tools such as Zoom allowing the user to introduce a virtual background to add flair to the meeting ( or maybe hide the makeshift office assembled ;-) ).

Talking with David Morin and others, there was interest in creating a way to showcase the foundation in these meetings. To help with that, we've created a set of ASWF themed Zoom backgrounds that one can use in their community or other meetings. These are open for anyone to freely use.

You can find the backgrounds in the ASWF Artwork repository at https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/artwork/blob/master/examples/other.md#aswf-zoom-backgrounds. Let me know if you have any issues or feedback in using these backgrounds.

Thank you,

John Mertic

Also new on the ASWF blog: Behind the Screens: Ken Museth, Senior Director in Simulation Technology, NVIDIA.

Hope everyone is doing well in these uncertain times.

I read this might be related to too knew a version of Java so I've installed Java8 via Homebrew as Java8 seemed to help on Centos.

Unfortunately, that did not resolve it.

Am I missing something?
