Thanks Blake and Kevin for the explanations, really appreciated. The whole thing with having multiple displays seems really nice and seems to work well in Nuke at least. I guess one problem might be that User A (sRGB monitor) saves his Nuke script and when it's opened by User B (Rec709 monitor) the sRGB view is missing and Nuke will give an annoying error. I see that the old spi configs use the same name for views across displays which would help with this, but it might also be confusing for the user. Maybe there's a way to check for color spaces via a Nuke callback before the error is thrown. Still, wouldn't it be nice to be able to set colorspace with an environment variable? That way I wouldn't need to have register multiple views/displays for a situation like this. - !<View> {name: Grade, colorspace: ${DEFAULT_VIEW}, looks: PreGrade_LUT | nolook}

legacy reasons. There were tools which didn't work well with the situation of having different lists of views for different displays, so the ACES config structured all the views under a single display, Ideally tools would be able to handle this case better. e.g. if you have: Display 1 with views A, B and C Display 2 with views A, C, D When the user selects Display 1 with View B all good, but selecting Display 1 from a drop down which choice should be shown for the view, etc. the ACES config basically combined them to say Display ACES, with views 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2C, 2D It is more in keeping with how OCIO is intended to be used, to use multiple displays to represent different display devices. Displays don’t appear to be doing much work in the nuke-default and ACES configs. The spi-anim config has an example of how Display can be used to partition ones Views by the type of display (projector, sRGB monitor).
Getting back to your question about Looks, I’ve never tried to set the colorspace using an environment variable.
Creating Views for each display calibration using the Display key might be the best approach: displays: Monitor: - !<View> {name: Grade, colorspace: Output - sRGB, looks: PreGrade_LUT | nolook} Projector: - !<View> {name: Grade, colorspace: Output - P3D65, looks: PreGrade_LUT | nolook}

Hi all,
As you hopefully heard at the SIGGRAPH and ASWF BoFs, development of OpenColorIO is currently in a stabilization and testing phase in preparation for the official release of v2 around the end of the year. We received some feedback (Issue #1196) that it would be helpful to use tags and version identifiers to mark way-points along the path to the official release. We have started doing that and today's master branch is now 'v2.0.0-beta1'. We kindly ask for your participation in testing the master branch to help us make a robust and stable v2 release. search_path on Windows

From what I understand the separator for search_path in a config file is a colon. This causes a bit of problem on Windows where I have luts in for example D:/path/to/luts. I could work around it with environment variables instead, but is there a way to "capsulate" the string so that the colon isn't evaluated? /Simon |

Also, I'm getting errors in v2 when I try the use the spi-anim and spi-vfx configs. Is that expected?As @Micheal mentioned, we put lot of effort to be backward compatible with v1 so anything you find which is not working as expected, could be a github issue for further investigations. The stabilization period is here to investigate new features but also to have a global status of the library. |

And to clarify, OCIO v2 has NOT been released yet. The project is feature complete, but there will likely be multiple rounds of release candidates before an official 2.0.0 release is made. OCIO v2 is currently in a four month stabilization period. For those that maintain applications which use OCIO, you are encouraged to test the current dev build and provide feedback and/or report issues. As Thomas mentioned, the intent is to have an ACES reference config on or near the OCIO v2 release, and to build upon that to make a larger config more similar to the existing OCIO v1 ACES config. Note that by "reference" config I mean a reference implementation of ACES, not including the many other pieces needed for a complete studio pipeline. If anyone on this list has interest in helping with this effort, we are meeting every-other week to discuss. See the "[ocio-dev] OpenColorIO-Config-ACES Working Group" calendar listing on this page: https://www.aswf.io/meeting-calendar/ I have not tried the spi-anim and spi-vfx configs with the v2 code yet, but it is intended to be backwards compatible with v1 configs, so feel free to provide those errors via a GH issue and we will investigate. Are there any v2 configs to experiment with? In particular it seems there should be an ACES config, seeing as ACES support is one of the big features in v2. Also, I'm getting errors in v2 when I try the use the spi-anim and spi-vfx configs. Is that expected? |
