Re: WG Project naming [last call!!]

Hi Chas,

Good notes. I just threw that in as a placeholder, to describe intent. I’ll make it more legible and will be speaking to the context in the session.

To add a thought about the slide deck;
The "Next Steps" roadmap slide at the end could use a title to make clear it's the ORI roadmap. And the background colour scheme makes it tough to read the foreground text (none of the text is easy to read).  Otherwise it's coming together.

If anyone has thoughts about the content please let us know.

Best, Chas.

@ John,  please do that now if you can. The Press release is supposed to be locked by eod today. (Not launching till next week)

One request - can I request a quick trademark knock out search? Want to be sure there isn't anything super problematic.

Hi All,

"The Open Review Initiative"  (ORI) feels pretty good to me and, it appears we have Chas as a second +1.

Any dissenters?  I'll consider this official unless someone objects before 5pm today.

Thanks for the ideation on this, I think we landed in a good place.

I think there is a future where what we define as "media" today (typically image files or movies) is not the only type of data these systems will display, (gLTF, USDz anyone?) but I don't have a concise word for "digital content" that feels good, and to Daniel's point I don't think folks will confuse the intent of the initiative under the auspices of the mission of the foundation. it might be better to leave it less defined since we don't really know what the shape of the data we will be reviewing in 5+ years is.

Open Review Initiative  "ORI" is consistent with our fondness for short typable three letter acronyms at least.

As we're under the wings of the ASWF I'm not too concerned about people not getting what we are reviewing.

OTOH we’re back to not sounding like we’re about Media.

I like where this is headed though

I like "Review" better than "Playback" as it sounds more open for subprojects.

Our project names that start with "Open" help to emphasize the open source aspect. To me, "Review and Approval" sounds more like a business process tracking system because it doesn't indicate what is being reviewed or approved. Is it fair to say that the project(s) are about reviewing "media"? So maybe OpenMediaReview or something like that could work?

I would +1 the common naming here - I think for better discoverability somehow tying it back to the industry would be helpful and make it stand out more on web searches. It also would be helpful if at some point there would be value in pursuing a trademark and/or defending the mark if there are competitive projects that emerge.

I like the suggested name. My only concern is that it's going to be a bit hard to google for.
You might get a few hits on other RNA related sites...
But since I have not better alternative I vote in favor (if I have a vote that is.)

Hi All,

We've got to settle on a name for the umbrella TSC entity to satisfy our legal requirements, and have something to call ourselves in press releases for Siggraph etc...

So far the only candidate is "RnA Project"

This is a last call for alternatives or votes in favor of or vehemently against the above.

I'd like to make the decision by EOD tomorrow so we can enable the PR teams to move ahead with their work.

Please chime in now if you have suggestions, or votes in favor/against the "RnA Project" naming.

Thanks,
-Erik
