OSL talk at SIGGRAPH

Larry Gritz <l...@...>

For anybody who will be at SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles next week, I'm giving a talk about OSL on Wednesday in the "APIs for Rendering" talk session (room 502B at 2pm). My sketch co-authors are Cliff Stein, Chris Kulla, and Alejandro Conty.

We'll make a point to stick around after the session is over (spilling out into the adjacent hallway if necessary) in case anybody wants to match faces to names, chat a bit, or whatever.

You may also wish to know about some other talks that are related to OSL:

Adam Martinez is speaking in Sunday's "Physically-Based Shading Models in Films and Games" course, about the kinds of physical shading models we use and are moving toward, and I think this may have some discussion about OSL.

Adam and Terrance Tornberg are giving a talk on Monday in the 9am "Rendering Intangibles" talk session, discussing the shading models we used in the production of "Alice in Wonderland." This work predates OSL, but it's an interesting discussion about the shading and lighting models that we've been working on in our renderer and that led to the kinds of design decisions that went into OSL.

And finally, Marcos Fajardo (the original author of Arnold, the renderer we develop and use at SPI) is speaking in a "Global Illumination Across Industries" course on Thursday. I'm pretty sure there is no OSL content here, but Marcos may talk a bit about the ray tracing algorithms we use and other aspects of the renderer.

Hi Larry

I did notice your talk in the lineup - sounds very interesting. For
those of us not going to Siggraph - is there any chance you could put
the notes from your talk online after you've presented it? (at your
convenience of course) I know I would be very interested to see them.

thanks

Simon

Absolutely. Though I'm not sure there's a whole lot that followers of this email list are going to get from the notes that they don't know already.

Hi Larry,

Loved your talk at SIGGRAPH! Unfortunately, my notes mysteriously
disappeared from my phone note taking app. I'd like to extend that
request for your notes being available somewhere.

Thanks!
