OpenTimelineIO Charter
Eric Reinecke
Hi all,
I looked over the TSC charter template and had a couple clarifying questions. For section 2b about establishing the TSC, It seems like in OTIO’s case the initial TSC members could be a bit ambiguous given the charter's definition. Would the `CONTRIBUTING` file be updated to make this more explicit for this project before officially absorbing into ASWF governance? Also, I see "Series Manager" is referred to but I'm unclear where this role is actually defined. Is this at the ASWF level, the LF level?
Aside from those clarifications, I really like the overall tone of constructive collaboration and inclusion. I'm excited for us to complete our transition into ASWF! -- Eric Reinecke (he-him) ereinecke@...

I had similar questions about initial membership. In talking with other ASWF project leads at SIGGRAPH, they all said it is best to start with the people contributing the majority of the code (e.g. the Committer role). The emphasis for the TSC is on the T (Technical) so the project is driven by the people doing the work. We haven't yet been tracking those people in the CONTRIBUTORS file, but Github helpfully provides this starting point: https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenTimelineIO/graphs/contributors I'm not sure about the "Series Manager" either. John, can you clarify these for us? --- Joshua Minor (he-him) Pixar Studio Tools Story/Editorial/VR Previs Tech Lead joshm@...

Hi everyone! Great questions! Here are my thoughts.... - The initial set of TSC members should be whomever are the primary committers to the project. The charter specifically keeps it vague on election and terms as it's best to have the TSC set a policy on this ( policies provide greater flexibility versus setting something in the charter ). I'd suggest building out a governance doc similar to what OpenVDB has done ( see https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openvdb/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md ) which describes the project roles and how to progress through them. - Series Manager is someone at the LF that oversees all the Series LLCs that we manage ( currently Mike Dolan ). Let me know if this helps.
